The Walk to Kuzum Baba: Finding Vlorë's Best Viewpoint
A step-by-step photo guide to reaching Kuzum Baba, the 70-metre hilltop viewpoint above Vlorë. The path is tricky but the panoramic views are worth it.
If you want the best view of Vlorë, you need to climb to Kuzum Baba. This 70-metre sea terrace sits above the city, offering panoramic views of the bay where the Adriatic meets the Ionian.
The catch? The path isn't straightforward. Here's how to find your way up.
Starting Point: The Ahmet Myftar Dede Statue
Google Maps location: Access is on the right side of the main road before you get to the mosque.

Your walk begins at the Ahmet Myftar Dede statue, east of the Mosque of Muradije in the city centre.
- The path condition is broken up so care is needed on some sections.
- I highlight the key navigation decision points and what to look for when the path splits.
- The ascent can be done in 20-30 minutes but all uphill.
The Climb: 240 Stone Steps
The path involves roughly 240 winding stone steps. Don't expect a well-maintained tourist trail. When I visited, sections were eroded or broken, requiring small detours around damaged areas.

The path is around the back of the statue.

Keep to the right on the main paved walkway.

The walkway will break off, turn to your left to continue over a broken section.

The paved walkway continues again.

The walkway is completly broken up, veer to the right slighly and make your way up the soil path.

Find the final set of paved steps with a wall on the left.

You will come to the gate to enter the temple grounds.

Tips for the climb:
- Wear proper shoes (not flip-flops).
- Avoid the hottest times of the day.
- If you go to see the incredible sunset, care and a torch is needed for descending in the dark
The Reward: Panoramic Views
At the top, the terrace stretches 200-300 metres with views across the entire city and bay.
There's a restaurant at the summit. I didn't eat there, but it's a good spot for a drink while taking in the view.

Best Time to Visit
Morning or late afternoon works best for the climb. The views at sunset are spectacular, but only attempt it if you're confident navigating the descent in fading light.
